A coconut palm leaning over the ocean at Hale Kai, Maui
Kīhei · Maui · Hawai‘i Beachfront villa · Sleeps 8

Among the palms,

on the sand.

Hale Kai — a four-suite beach house where the lānai opens to the Pacific and the day ends behind Lānaʻi.

Scroll
The House

A barefoot house on the West Maui sand.

Hale Kai means house by the sea, and it earns the name. Four suites open onto a single long lānai; the lānai opens onto a lawn of palms; the palms give way to sand and the surf line. There is no road to cross, no path to find — the beach is simply where the grass ends.

Inside: louvered light, teak and linen, a kitchen built for long dinners, and a wall of glass that disappears so the trade winds can move through the whole house.

The Pool

A pool that faces the sun.

Heated year-round and set just above the sand, the pool runs to a clean edge with nothing past it but ocean and the long Maui sunset. Mornings are for laps; evenings belong to the shallow end, a drink, and the green flash.

Around it: teak loungers, an outdoor shower under the palms, a gas grill, and a dining table that seats all eight when the kitchen spills outside.

A day at Hale Kai

"Coffee on the lānai before the wind picks up. Honu in the shallows by ten. A nap, a swim, a grill. And then the whole sky turns the colour of a mai tai and drops behind Lānaʻi."

— An ordinary Tuesday

Beyond the door

All of Maui, from one quiet stretch of sand.

Turtles graze the reef out front. The Road to Hāna starts up the coast. Snorkel Molokini at dawn, watch the humpbacks breach in winter, and be back on the lānai before the sun goes down. Hale Kai sits where the island is calmest — and everything worth doing is a short drive away.

"We've rented all over Hawaii and nothing touches Hale Kai. You step off the lānai and you're on the sand. The turtles came in every morning. We've already booked again."

"Booked direct, paid less than the apps, and the host answered in minutes. The pool at sunset with the kids asleep is a memory we'll keep forever. Spotless, stylish, exactly as pictured."
